In kilos? In metres? She was not fake, nor was her poetry … She was the last prophet of truth-telling that our country has seen. Golestan said two friends had introduced him to Farrokhzad in the late s when she was looking for a job. At the time he was running a well-known studio in Darrous, an affluent area in northern Tehran. He has never returned to his home country. Golestan decided to give the young Farrokhzad a job answering phones in the office where 40 film-makers and photographers worked.
He said it was months before they developed a relationship, although Golestan was married at the time. In this year her second volume of verse, containing twenty-five short lyrics, called Divar The Wall , was published, dedicated to her former husband.
In Forough's third collection Esian Rebellion , appeared and securely established her as promising yet notorious poet. Forough's relationship with the controversial writer and cinematographer Ebrahim Golestan began and remained important in the poet's personal life until her death. The movie was acclaimed internationally and won several prizes. Also Bernardo Bertolucci came to Iran to Interview her and decided to produce a fifteen minutes movie about the poet's life.
In Forough's fourth poetry collection, Tavallodi Digar Another Birth , contained thirty-five poems which the poet had composed over a period of nearly six years was published.
He was quiet and serious and loved his family. Vaziritabar probably disciplined the children more than the colonel. A year later, Forough gave birth to their son Kamyar.
The couple divorced three years later, in Shapour three times in those days. She always said that her goal in life was not to be an excellent cook and cleaner. She had much greater aspirations, but Shapour did not want to change the status quo. During that time, she met celebrated Iranian poet and painter Sohrab Sepehri and another notable painter Mehri Rakhsha. Sohrab became friends with Parviz and used to visit them at their home.
They stayed friends until the end. She told me that Forough used to go to their house frequently. Forough and Fereydoun would sit in their garden and discuss their works for hours. Many poets and writers, including Shamlou, would attend the weekly literary meeting at her house.
He remained friends with Forough and Parviz Shapour. Of all her siblings, Forough was closest to Amir-Massoud. Later she developed a strong tie with Fereydoun. Amir-Massoud was the first to leave Iran and study in Germany. Forough had a conversational capability of the French language. She studied English for four years and could speak, write and even translate in that language. Forough did not like to wear makeup and preferred a natural look.
